The study employed what’s known as cross-cultural psychology and the Big Five Inventory, a measure of extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness.

What the study didn’t determine, however, was whether where one lives determines personality. In other words, did the North Dakotan become cranky when he moved to California? And will the California who moves to North Dakota become less neurotic?
