Qualities of A Good Teacher
The quality and productivity in education are seriously affected by the qualities of Teachers and Parents. Whatever acts parents and teachers perform, children and students follow. The following are the qualities of a Teacher.
1 Is highly motivated, dedicated and committed to the object of his profession: Performs triple role - the role of a Teacher, Researcher and a Practitioner simultaneously.
2 Is willing to transfer complete knowledge of the subject matter to the students and also helps them in development of all the three personal attributes (body, mind and spirit) necessary for living honestly in the society. The development of these three attributes is essential as the body of knowledge derived through physical senses is neither adequate nor dependable. It is the unfolding of the spiritual dimension of man that makes him wise. There is no truth higher than God and no enjoyment higher than God-realization.
3 Updates the Curriculum regularly in line with the socio-economic needs of the society, considering its traditions, culture, moral values and ethics.
4 Has Deep and up-to-date Knowledge of the Subject: Which is clearly visible form his explanations and answers to clear the doubts of students by coming down to the level of understanding of the student.
5 Considers research as an essential activity for the advancement of his subject. Thus, original and relevant research as per the need of the society is perused by him, but not at the cost of teaching.
6 Has good presentation and communicating skills: Is able to convey his ideas, views and knowledge to the students in an effective way. Uses simple and accurate language and the presentation are clear and well supported with teaching aids, as required.
7 Puts the students at ease and encourages them to participate actively in discussions to enhance their interest in the subject and verify the transfer of knowledge.
8 All for Students: Is willing to solve student’s problems even outside the class room without commercialization of his noble profession.
9 Adjusts the pace and mode of teaching according to the level of comprehension of the students.
10 Is fully conscious of his duties and discharges them well without sparing any effort and observes humility in his daily conduct.
11 Always helps his students set high standards for themselves and work towards realizing the goal.
12 Keeps perfect courage and never allow weakness and defeatism to enter his mind.
13 Never looses his common sense and sense of fair play. Is affectionate in his conduct towards all. Treats students like his children.
14 Is always considered as a Role Model by his students. Always presents himself as an ideal and project a clear and clean image by being Truthful, Honest, Sincere, Resourceful, Punctual, Helpful and Approachable and follows professional ethics. Spends adequate time to prepare his lectures. Enters the classroom on time and utilizes the full period to teach and solve the difficulties of the students.
15 Is courteous and shows respect for one and all. Is Open minded, builds rapport and keeps cool all the time.
16 Always discourages dishonesty, disharmony, abhorrence, deceit and bad behaviour.
17 On pointing out his mistakes, always thanks the students, junior and senior staff and parents.
