Meditation : What, Why and How ?

What ?

Meditation has been defined as: “self regulation of attention, in the service of self-inquiry, in the here and now. The various techniques of meditation can be classified according to their focus.

Why ?

The purpose of meditation is to make our mind calm and peaceful and commune with HIM. If our mind is peaceful, we will be free from worries and mental discomfort, and so we will experience true happiness; but if our mind is not peaceful, we will find it very difficult to be happy, even if we are living in the very best conditions. If we train in meditation, our mind will gradually become more and more peaceful, and we will experience a purer and purer form of happiness. Eventually, we will be able to stay happy all the time, even in the most difficult circumstances.

How ?

The simplest form of meditation is to sit quietly and focus the attention on the center of two eyes brows.

I don’t believe that it is that easy to meditate. Meditation is a form of regular exercise that despite of all the tall claims made cannot be mastered by anyone. If meditation was capable of making us better individuals then there would not have been such large number of hypocrite yoga gurus.

Yes, when it comes to large number of hypocrite yoga gurus, the question comes that are we capable to find the right one?

To be capable one needs to do lot of research and then evaluate to find the true teacher.

Finding a true teacher is only from God. Its He who appoints one for us when He decides. However, in some cases, true Guru can have spiritual link with you. Allama Iqbal, the national poet of Pakistan, had spiritual link with Rumi and it was Rumi who was his guru and lead him.
