Well well, what a very interesting phenomena we have here in the person of Denis.

In his own words, considered a terrorist in two countries, but can also get people into the UN in Geneva because of his contacts (Euhh ok...?)

has many years of military combat experience but also runs a spirituality site calling for love and peace (Euhh ok...?) (oh, and for the ”ten minutes per day program” to help you find inner peace bit in more detail you have to ”join”. I hope this doesn’t mean ”pay”)

has been down the coast of South America in protest against racism, but is twisted enough to say that the jews invented the word ”terrorism” and propagates terrorism in the world (Euhh ok...?)

says we should all stop reading the mainstream media and its mediocre and manipulating earthly concerns, but that doesn’t stop him putting up stacks of links on his page to precisely those ”worthless” subjects (Euhh ok...?)

and, whilst doing all this, he spends most of every day on IB, because he joined the site to ”Shake things up a little around here”!!!

Decidedly, a VERY interesting personality.

In fact, one worth knowing a lot more about......

Hello Dr.Ratan, Having worked on the issues of racism, intolerance
and xenophobia, at the international level, for the past 12 years, I
am, perhaps, more sensitive than most.

Surely Obama is a black American of partially African descent. His
skin is dark, but, I suspect, lighter than yours and his hair is
probably more curly. Within that previous staement is there any
reason to point a finger in jest.

This is a matter of subtlety. Today, I posted an image of an Indian
sadhu, illustrative, not perjorative. As a matter of fact, I
purposely gave the meta description as alt=”Denis Jones” title=”Denis
Jones”, to show that I identified with the image, though many
non-Indians point and ridicule.

If your editor from Uganda, for example, had used the same caption
with the same image, he could be said to be humorous. In this
instance, however, you have one finger pointing out and three fingers
pointing back toward yourself.

And, I may be wrong in assuming it is an African image. . . there ae
many places in India, where this is a common sight. At least there
were, when I visited last.

I find the image humorous, also. I may copy and use it. If I were moving my household to a new location, I would use it. If Barrack Obama used the image to announce that he was moving to Washington, he’d become instantly famous for his sense of humor. When someone uses an image, either verbal or graphic, to point at the ”other”, the result says more about the joker than the object of the joke.

This is a subtle point. I wish to encourage people to look at themselves, if they wish to see or make a joke.
There is no ”other.”

I do not want you to change the text. I am saying the text says more about you than anything else.

Racism, xenophobia and intolerance are ubiquitous. So much so that we do not realize that they reside in each of us.

Not too long ago, I was invited to speak to 4000 labor union officials in Germany, on the subject of racism. Germany has its unique history on this matter and a volatile current situation. When I do these things, I always speak through an interpreter, even if I speak the local language, because there are alyays differences in accent, pronounciation and idiom, which can create confusion. I prefer to use a local translator and correct the translation, if I detect an error.

On this occassion, I began my talk with the explanation that, ”I have been invited to be here to speak to you on the subject of racism, because I am a recognized expert on the subject. I am an expert, because I am a racist and have been a racist, since childhood...” My translator would not say the words, ”I am a racist.” I encoraged her to say this inGerman several times and when I realized that it was too painful for her to say such a thing. I delivered my talk in German, telling her she was welcome to join in whenever she recovered.

My message to the group was that I was not an overt active racist but when threatened or in an uncomfortable position I tend to get defensive and blame the other, especially if he is racially or ethnicly different from me. I told them that I look at these things in myself, and look for the source of such feelings. My personal conclusions were that these thoughts were the results of beliefs put in my subconcious, at a very early age, due to my culture. I was born and spent my childhood in the USA, an extremely racist society.

I encoraged them to look into themselves and see how their thoughts originated, as a result of their culture. I encourage you to do the same. I can not tell you what to do or how to think, your answers are within you. What I can say is that when you discover why you believe, feel and think the way you do, you will find it very humorous.

Understanding Self requires effort, after the work is done, the humor arises. Jayantiji returned to India last Fall. I think he has returned to India just as India needs him, again.

Look, there is trouble, discord and turmoil everywhere, all of the time. Why?... because of the ”other” There is no ”other” The ”other” is created by those, who wish to divide us, for their own purposes..

Not very long ago, Indians were complaining about the separation of Pakistan and India, because they were one. The artificial division was done by political forces, who needed the division. Now, Indians look at Pakistanis as the other. Can you not see the humor in such foolishness.

Quite true.Only please accept Dennis’s point.All he is trying to say that we are laughing at the expense of others- and in this particular case the joke has racist implications.Also he says a good joke is the one where you direct the finger at yourself.

He is correct on both(of all three :) counts.

Perhaps he does not know that we Indians and Pakistanis find it no laughing matter at all if a joke is direct at our own selves - and absolutely hilarious if the same one is directed by say the Musla’s at Sikhs or by our Sikh brother’s at the Musla’s.
